Volunteer Opportunities at Students for High-Impact Charity and Rethink Charity
Do you want to spend your free time on something innovative and rewarding, with a global impact? Then join our volunteer team, and help out with SHIC and other Rethink Charity Projects.
Students for High-Impact Charity (SHIC) has created a specialized curriculum to teach secondary school and university students about effective altruism and to inspire them to take action on global issues like world poverty, animal welfare, and risks of developing technologies.
We are seeking a volunteer who will be able to mentor students who are running a SHIC club at their school. This is a remote position that can be done from anywhere in the world as long as you have a computer and an internet connection.
Your role would be to respond to student emails, have video chats with students to guide them in setting up their club and running SHIC levels, and keep our database of student groups up to date. Full training will be given.
Our ideal mentor will:
- Have excellent organizational and communication skills
- Be friendly and able to easily relate to young people
- Be available to work for approximately 6 hours per week over the next semester or longer, with some flexibility about when they work to allow for scheduling meetings with students across different time zones
- Be familiar with effective altruism concepts and charities
- Have experience running clubs at high school or university level
- Be able to work with a high degree of autonomy
Help support the most effective charities in the world, while fostering the next generation of altruists.
Social Media Guru
Rethink Charity is looking for a Social Media Guru who can help us promote and raise awareness about a number of our projects, most notably Students for High-Impact Charity (SHIC) and RC Forward, and the charities we support. Do you know what time of the day is best for optimizing views for a post? Are you an active user on multiple social media platforms? Do you have experience promoting products, services or causes on social media? If your answer to any of these questions is yes, please reach out to us! This role will require about 3 or 4 hours per week of your time.
Administration and Research
Rethink Charity is seeking a “generalist” volunteer for various operational tasks. These tasks aren’t always the most glamorous, but they are often the most critical to the success of our organization. We need someone who is tech savvy enough to learn things on the spot and to figure out how to do them efficiently. Attention to detail is a must. What you work on here will translate into skills applicable wherever you land. Flexible hours but we’re looking for at least three per week. Research skills are a plus.
